The country Switzerland wants to legalise their online gambling market, as we previously mentioned in this article.
A new draft bill has already been introduced to the federal government.
From 1921 to 1993 all types of gambling were completely prohibited in the country.
Then land based casinos, sports betting and lotteries were legalised.
Soon, online games could be allowed as well.
At the moment they are still illegal.
Because of this many Swiss people visit online casinos that are being operated in foreign countries.
This situations poses a significant loss in tax revenue for the country, which partly explains why they want to legalise it now.
Additionally, the sector currently faces great difficulties, as we explained in this news article, which stems from the global economic crisis and from online competition.
Because of this the market decreased on an average of 5-8% per year since 2010.
The new bill proposes that operators of land based casinos with their establishment on Swiss soil can offer online gambling sites to boost their revenues.
Originally, the text should have been proposed in the second half of 2013, but the process of drafting it took longer tan expected.
The new measure will now be up for debate on the 20th of August.
As we already mentioned, the bill proposes the issue of gaming licenses for established operators in the country.
It also seeks to fight against fraud, corruption and money laundering, and offers protection to minors and compulsive gamblers.
The bill also provides for the establishment of a Commission of Online Games in Switzerland.
However, the Commission will not be responsible for issuing the licenses, as this task will be assigned to the 26 Swiss cantons.
