The American casino promoter giant, Las Vegas Sands is currently working a mammoth project worth 16 billion euros.
This could take place on the outskirts of Madrid, creating more than 250,000 jobs – 50,000 of which would be direct jobs – in a country were unemployment reaches 21,5%.
Sort of Las Vegas replica, this project is to build a huge leisure centre combining casinos, hotels, restaurants, theaters and golfs.
The promoter plans to build its complex close to Madrid’s Barajas airport, in Valdedebas exactly.
For now, negotiations between the group and the council of Madrid are not yet completed, but sources claim they are in an advanced stage.
Indeed, this massive worksite would require some amendments in the urbanism policies but also an exemption of the smoking ban law.
On top of this, Las Vegas Sands wants to invest in Southern Europe, and Madrid is not the only targeted city.
The local community is determined to host the project, which would inject a lot of money into the economy, and would allow the creation of 250,000 jobs, dividing unemployment by 2 in the region.
