Difficulties for land based Canadian casinos

The Canadian casino industry is currently facing major difficulties.
To see the truth in this, just take a look at the numbers: revenues for the Société des Casinos du Québec (SCQ), for example, fell by 25.5 million dollars in 2013 to reach only 843 million dollars.
These difficulties are mainly due to the decline in purchasing power for players, leading to both a drop in attendance and a decrease in bets.
To get out of this situation, the industry is placing its hopes on two draft measures, currently being worked on by the government.
First of all, there is the controversial authorization of alcohol at gaming tables.
This would allow players to drink while playing, and, as a result, spend more time at the games.
However, opponents of the measure say that alcohol remains inadvisable when gambling and that it increases risks of gambling dependence.
There are also some newly authorized games worth mentioning.
Video lottery machines could soon appear alongside slot machines to boost casino revenues.
