In October 2011, we reported that a rumour had circulated relating to the possible legalisation of land-based casinos in Japan before June 2012.
At the time the government did work on bill, but the draft never became law.
The issue seems to be back on the government agenda, as four ministers have been given responsibility to work on the matter.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso, Commerce Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Education Minister Hakubun Shimomura will have to set the guidelines for a law that should legalise land-based casinos.
The new law should be passed after the elections of next July.
