On Thursday, May 1, the Federal Council launched a consultation on the draft of the new law for gambling.
The casinos of the country do not seem to appreciate the texts, and claim that there are too many amendments.
The casinos in Switzerland face major challenges at the moment.
Indeed, since 2007 their turnover decreased by 25%.
Due to strict regulations, they attract fewer and fewer players.
Most prefer the online competitors who are subject to much more flexible laws, or special measures.
Indeed, these people play more on the Internet in neighbouring countries, or in illegal casinos.
In an attempt that should strengthen their competitiveness, the casino industry wants to implement several new amendments to the bill.
They want a clear and precise definition of the proposed casino games, and the operation of slot machines which should be forbidden outside of these dedicated gambling houses, and they want the introduction of new games to be simplified.
Also considering that control practices for prevention are the strictest on an international level in comparison, they find that establishing another prevention commission is unnecessary.
They also criticise the measures for online gambling.
Swiss lottery corporations can currently provide online games to their customers, while casinos do not have that right. This poses a distortion of the competition.
Professionals claim that this situation should be rectified as soon as possible, and the new law intends to lift the ban in the year 2018, at the earliest.
