Last week was the budget debate in the Parliament of Bermuda.
David Burt, an influential politician of the majority, told the members that the island already had the necessary infrastructure to become a major player in the online gambling industry that generates around 35 billion Dollar a year in revenues worldwide.
He urged other members of the parliament to consider allowing regional land based casino operators to be able to expand their offer with Internet gambling, and allow online bets, which would increase the tax revenues significantly.
As am example, David Burt used the online gambling industry of Gibraltar, that employs over 2.600 local residents, and reported $80 million in taxes in 2013.
Based on a report from 2010 by the independent analyst KPMG International Cooperative, he reminded, that the betting market on the Internet was one of the most dynamic segments of the gaming industry.
The politician also referred to the Wall Street Journal, and reported that revenues from betting on the Internet in Europe last year totalled at about $34.4 billion, or roughly five times the revenue of all the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip.
