On November 15th, the European Parliament adopted a report from Jürgen Creutzmann, European deputy, demanding extra measures to stop illegal gambling and to protect a vulnerable and underaged audience.
With the application of this report, the European parliamant recommends the creation of common rules or a framework to allow greater cooperation between member states, even though they would still be able to keep a direct control on online gambling.
One of the key proposition found in Jürgen Creutzmann’s report is the creation of a standard licence, which will ensure the players’ security and force the operators to comply with various conditions established by the member state in which they operate.
Meanwhile, the European parliament invites the European commission to consider a ban on funds transfer between banks and gambling sites marked in a blacklist.
In addition, it is asking for the introduction of ongoing controls to check the players’ age and eventual restrictions on electronic payments, in order to protect the underaged and vulnerable audience.
Finally, european deputies suggested that all these recommendations should be included in a code of conduct.
The European Gaming and Betting Association congratulated the European Parliament for adopting this report, supporting a common approach at European level to online gambling.
